Strength in Support
My name is Chelsea Sinnicks,
I am the woman on the right there grinning like it is the best day of my life.
This rockstar family is hanging out with their new baby girl just 20 minutes after giving birth. They were so strong and had so much love for eachother, and she, well she birthed like a goddess.
As for me, I'm a young women's rights and birth advocate. When you are hiring a doula you are also hiring someone who will be part of probably the most intimate and intense experience of your life. That being said it is very important that you feel comfortable with your doula and that your doula makes a good fit with you and your family.
In birth my philosophy is love wins, and whatever variation that comes in for your family is what I follow.
I support all variations of families from lgbtq, poly, trans, single moms, young families, hetero, open, reserved, everyone and anywhere in Newfoundland, but I truly believe that there should be a doula for everyone and if I fit what you're looking for, feel free to contact me for a free meeting and tea.
I am a birth and postpartum doula trained under Dona International.
I have worked as a midwifery second attendant, trained under the traditional midwifery model of care.
I am trained in spinning babies,
and am the first registered aboriginal birth worker in Newfoundland and Labrador!
I have supported all variations of the family unit,
and my methodology has its roots grasped in trusting your body, trusting your baby, and love is the best remedy in any circumstance.
My journey into birth work came unexpectedly but once it began it just kept moving forward.
My experience in birth work began in January of 2014 and has ranged from home birth to hospital birth, from doula to midwifery second attendant, from holistic to medical and the wonderful variations that exist in between.
I fell in love with birth work fairly quickly, and as my experience grew so did my passion to help families come together in whatever shape that may be. My goal is to help new and growing families have the most empowered birth and postpartum journey and transition that they can.
With a little support(or a lot), some educational resources, and a lot of love, I help the families I work with to have happier, more fulfilled, and empowered birth experiences to grow stronger together as a family unit. So that EVERYONE has the best birth experience, whatever that means for them, wherever you are I will meet you there and we will travel through this wonderful journey together.

Why I’m a Doula
The experience of pregnancy and birth makes the world go round. It is intimate, and raw, and powerful and shapes how we view ourselves and the world we live in. I believe that the need for caring, sensitive, and knowledgeable support during this time is becoming more and more apparent. I see every pregnancy and birth as a unique and intimate experience, and as a Doula I feel honored to be able to contribute my expertise to women and families in the greater St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador area.
All The Answers
Does a doula replace medical staff?
we are supporters of you and your birth experience. we are not allowed to provide medical advice. We can give you resources and evidence based studies to review but ultimately it is up to you to make the best decision for you and your family.
We help advocate for you and your choices based on informed consent and can offer suggestions at your birth to provide you with options, but ultimately we are advocating for your choice and consent and supporting you in whatever decision you make.
Why do I need a doula, I have my partner there?
A doula does not replace a partner, or multiple partners, or your mom, or your sister. These are the people who know you better than anyone else. A good doula will work with the family to help them to even better support you, to provide you with guidance when you and those closest to you are wrapped up in the birth experience. We are there to ensure your birth plan is being followed, to advocate for your choices, to give others there a rest and fill in.
Most importantly we are birth experts, we have a ton of tricks and experience to back up way to help make labor more comfortable, and to progress easier. We have information resources that your partners may not have thought of and many solutions to your questions and concerns. We are there for the entire family and to hear your voice to make this the most empowering birth experience for you.
How do you deal with complications at birth?
Well I don't do anything medical.
I help you connect with your breathe, I advocate for you to ask what is medically necessary and what your options are.
I am also trained in spinning babies which helps the baby to align with your pelvis, a few positions are often the fix to a "failure to progress."
Birth Doula Training
Dona is an international certifying body for doulas. I trained under the birth doula training in may of 2015.
Postpartum doula training
Trained under Dona International to become a qualified postpartum doula, to aid in proper postpartum and breastfeeding support.
Spinning Babies certification workshop November 2016
Spinning Babies is a course designed by Gaily Tully to aid in proper positioning of the baby to be aligned with the pelvis.
Breath and alignment are two of the if not the most important things in birth, and of course support.
